This is the Memorial at the Mardassen Center. We met a man who had been a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne at Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge (he was wounded
Christmas Eve 1944). It was his first time back since then.
From the top of the memorial you can see the town of Bastogne.
McCauliffe Square in downtown Bastogne. There is even a Sherman Tank to "greet" you as you enter Bastogne.
It dropped into the low 40s while we were there. With our light jackets and the grey, damp, windy day gave us a small appreciation for what the soldiers went through in December 1944.
Since we were close by, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to see the historical battleground at Bastogne. I think the sacrifice of our fathers and grandfathers is being lost to younger
